Who I am, and why I am writing this down.
Hi, I am Jordan
I am a fourth-year Education student at the University of Victoria, on my way to teaching middle-years science. I took EDCI 337 because I had started to notice that most of the teaching materials I was making — including my own slides — were built the way I had always seen them built, rather than the way people actually learn. What I am interested in
Three things I keep coming back to
- Cognitive load. How much you can ask of someone at once, and what happens when you ask for more.
- Audio. Narration is the part of a multimedia lesson that most people leave until last, and it is usually what makes or breaks it.
- Accessibility as design, not repair. Captions and alt text written first tend to make the whole thing clearer.
